Mission

RudduR Dance’s mission is to use contemporary ballet and theatricality to create performances reflective of society. At a time when stating that Black Lives Matter is controversial, RudduR Dance empowers Blacks and sometimes, quite literally, lets them fly.

RudduR Dance investigates themes of the human condition and emphasizes that which unites us. The Company seeks to increase awareness and appreciation for American dance and culture by presenting original works both nationally and internationally. We strive to provide access to dance in society broadly, and in communities of the African Diaspora particularly.

In 2020, RudduR Dance was named as the inaugural New Victory Theater LabWorks company in residence, focusing on youth engagement; the residency was extended through 2021 and 2022. The company also participated in a residency at Kaatsbaan, supported by Works & Process at the Guggenheim, during the pandemic.

In 2023, residencies at BAM, the Center for Ballet and the Arts, and Chelsea Factory provided critical resources and visibility. Committed to artistic excellence and community engagement, RudduR Dance pushes the boundaries of contemporary dance while addressing vital social issues, continuing into 2024, which saw the company be awarded a residency at the Apollo, culminating in a “first look” presentation at the iconic Harlem theater.

As of 2025, the company continues to create powerful, socially relevant work, inspiring audiences in the U.S. and internationally.

Our Story

Founded in 2015 by Christopher Rudd, RudduR Dance serves as a platform for artistic excellence, blending movement styles to explore pressing social themes. The company gained recognition through STREB Lab for Action Mechanics' GO! Emerging Artist Commission Program and, in 2017, toured Burkina Faso with support from the U.S. Embassy, World Learning, and Arts Convoy.

In 2019, "RudduR Dance Empowers the Americas" toured Ecuador, backed by Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, the NEA, and the Mellon Foundation. That year, residencies at Kaatsbaan and STREB solidified the company’s presence in New York, alongside an invitation to Tofte Lake Center in Minnesota.
