Join RudduR Dance as we celebrate our 10th anniversary with the debut of WITNESS, a transformative ballet trilogy that examines the Black experience in America across time, using breathtaking choreography and powerful storytelling.
WITNESS Trilogy Overview:
WITNESS is a three-part contemporary ballet created by Christopher Rudd, inspired by the tragic 2012 murder of Trayvon Martin. This performance uses dance, circus arts, film, and theatrical elements to explore America's racial history and present, and to offer a vision of a just and equitable future.
YESTERDAY: Focuses on the dehumanizing brutality of slavery in America, with dancers struggling against the chains of bondage.
TODAY: Explores the ongoing fight against systemic racism, particularly within the criminal (in)justice system.
TOMORROW: Asks artists and audiences alike to envision a future that many of us do not believe is possible and plot a course to get there. With the use of customized trampolines, we depict liberation on Black bodies, the very joy that is taken away from Black people at an earlier age than our white counterparts.
